It’s not hard to get enough protein when eating a whole foods, plant-based diet. There’s tons of options that are just as protein-rich as their animal based counterparts. Try tofu, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and even some vegetables and fruit contain a good source of protein!
Most of the time, I personally try to get my complete protein and essential amino acids from these whole food forms of plants, but sometimes protein powders can be really helpful when trying to meet high-protein goals. Especially when you’re short on time or on-the-go and need a fast, extra boost of protein.
Thankfully, there are tons of plant-based protein powders available today on the market nowadays. You can buy plain and unsweetened, basic vanilla, chocolate flavors, or even unique flavors like pumpkin spice, peanut butter, coffee, and more.
You may find that the plant-based protein powder recipes below taste good even with a protein powder that wasn’t your favorite. This is a great way to use up any extra stock of protein powder in your pantry so you don’t need to waste any food. Plant-based protein powder is one of the many things in my pantry. How Much Protein is in Plant-Based Protein Powder?
The protein content in plant-based protein powder can vary depending on the specific type and brand of the product. Different plant sources have different natural protein concentrations. Common plant-based protein sources used in powders include a vegan protein blend including pea protein, brown rice protein, hemp protein, pumpkin seeds, split peas, and soy protein.
On average, a serving of plant-based protein powder can contain anywhere from 15 to 25 grams of plant-based protein per scoop, but again, some products may have more or less. It’s important to check the label of the specific product you’re using to get an accurate understanding of the amount of protein in your specific product.
How to Use Plant-Based Protein Powder
There’s many ways to use plant-based protein powder. On the back label of most plant-based protein powders, you’ll find suggestions for use. This can be as simple as dissolving the protein powder in water or the milk of your choice, and giving it a good shake in a blender bottle, bowl with a whisk, a high-speed blender, or even a handheld frother.
If I am being honest, this is my least favorite way to use protein powder. Aside from being completely boring, protein powder doesn’t always taste very good on its own (or worse, it tastes gritty or chalky). Even the best tasting plant protein powders just don’t taste amazing on their own.
To solve this problem, I’ve rounded up 37 of the best vegan protein powder recipes that will help you hit your protein goals and satisfy your taste buds. Plus, these recipes are also packed with even more protein thanks to the inclusion of protein-rich ingredients and healthy fats like chia seeds, soy milk, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, nut and seed butter, and more.
